Now it's time to replace the processor. As I had commented on the first post of this series to purchase this notebook was coldly calculated. I knew of the compatibility of the motherboard with Sempron processors higher than 3500. I also was well satisfied with the memory and hard disk without doubt the improvement of the entire notebook has been remarkable. I'm in technical computing and got a brief experience with assembly and maintenance of micros, I continued with the firm intention to upgrade the processor to a Turion X2 (dual-core). Followed many forums on the topic and found that there was a possibility that the processor be welded directly on the motherboard that would make it impossible to replace. But still risked. I say chance, because in fact the replacement of a notebook processor is a real risk and not to advise anyone who did not know what you are doing. In my case I had some setbacks that almost made me regret the comment that the more freight.

First I needed to purchase the Turion X2 processor socket S1 (model TMDTL50HAX4CT). Again using eBay [1], which bought the processor for $ 60.00, today it is around $ 40. The exchange of a processor is a very delicate operation, involving many of liberção ... delicate bolts and cables. To achieve the processor was necessary to separate completely the notebook's screen, it was literally "by a thread." The system is very dissipation ingenious, but should be less efficient, because the cooler cools the heatsink to a considerable distance from the processor.

Here are some photos of the mission (click to enlarge):

I knew one of the effects of the new processor would be the slight increase in temperature and dissipation system may not bear, but not enfretei this problem.

The main disappointment was that after all finished and restart your notebook with the keyboard was defective, some keys did not work. To achieve work had to purchase a USB keyboard, open the notebook again and disconnect the keyboard completely. I made several attempts to reinstall the keyboard, the problem was the cable flat, very thin and delicate, when I plug the cable from the keyboard connector on the tracks (so) the cable gone and lost the electrical contact. Had already abandoned the keyboard, because I was using the USB, for more than a month. Just buying a new keyboard to replace the damaged, but to try to exchange the look was not very good. Then I discovered that the problem in the cable plug was flat keyboard connector that had a single lock that needed to be released before plugging the cord into the connector. But as the cable from the keyboard was damaged had to use the following strategy, as the flat cable is actually a plastic tape printed with finíssimas trails I just trim with a scissors about 2mm from the tip of the tape, leaving him with virtually all new and the tracks perfect. After that everything was right and worked without problems.

So is a hint: only if these do have an upgrade and take the risks I risked and I regret, though.

  1. Wow, I do not want to risk not, I am satisfied with this my Sempron ...
Although I feel very nice upgrade, I do not believe in a big gain for users.
I say this because I have the same laptop and a desktop Atlhon x2, 4gb of ram .. in my day day of work I do numerical calculations in C, maple, etc. octave and other activities of people in general, and I see no difference between the usability of my laptop and desktop.

The only glaring difference between the two is for the games, but this is linked to video cards ... mainly for comparing one does not go Nvidia 6150, with a 8600gt. And as far I know an upgrade is impossible to vga, rs.

Abraço and congratulations on an excellent article!
