Distributions rating
Debian
Debian or Debian GNU / Linux [1] is one of the oldest existing distros and is fully mantidada the community and volunteers. Another feature that marks this distribution is its high quality control of packages and their stability, because its software thoroughly tested. The Debian does not maintain a regular polítca releases of versions of (on average a launch takes place from 1 to 3 years), however after a new release the previous version still has security updates for one year. The Debian distro is still more that remains faithful to its policy of Free Software and has more leads.
CentOS
The CentOS (Community Enterprise Operating System) [2] is a Linux distribution company-level fully derivative of Red Hat Enterprise Linux [3]. The CentOS completely follows the policy of redistribution of the supplier base [4] and aims to be 100% compatible with your binaries. The CentOS is maintained by a small team of developers who basically recompiling the sources provided by Red Hat, only removing the marks and logos of the Red Hat. is a ditribução free and that to follow the same policy for updating your daughter has a period of up to seven years of maintaining security. Still has all stability and popularity of their distribution mother who is one of the oldest and accepted in business (the Red Hat maintains homlogação programs and certification of software and hardware for your OS).
OpenSUSE
The openSUSE project [5] is a community distro sponsored by Novell [6] and which originated from the former SUSE German with a strong presence in Europe. The openSUSE has a considerable base of users mainly due to its graphic and pleasant finished well in both KDE window manager, as in GNOME. Still has a powerful tool for administration of the system, the Yast2. However the recent agreement between Novell and Microsoft, has generated many uncertainties in its users. The openSUSE is used as the basis for Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise, similar system used by Red Hat which sponsors the distribution and use Fedora as the basis for its version of the Linux business. The openSUSE has a policy to provide security updates for two years.
In the next post we will provide the context in which the comparison test will be performed.
